Autumn

My family and I live in a small house on the edge of the woods in Olympia, Washington. From our windows we see the trees and the sky and the changing of the seasons. Autumn makes me feel melancholic because I know that it leads to winter and that means less opportunity to be out of doors. Still, there is a beauty to the grey, shadowless light and the bare stark branches have a graphic quality to them.

Visiting Santa Rosa

Watch the video

Thank you so much to The Valentines for letting me use their song, "Leaving Olympia". It seems that Jamie and Carmen have something in common, both have left Olympia and headed south.

This is some video tape that I took when we visited Carmen a couple of months ago in Santa Rosa. We met her boyfriend Mick and were able to get to San Francisco to see our friend Roger. Sorry we missed you Susan, Ian and Elizabeth!

Bento Boxes

Watch the video
My friend Dana Squires is an Olympia artist who is interested in food from around the globe. Recently she had a show of her work on paper called Quince and Persimmons, Food From Autumn Fruit. In conjunction with her exhibit she made bento boxes and delivered them to people who had expressed an interest in receiving them.

Permeable Concrete

Watch the video
The City of Olympia just put in a sidewalk in front of our bakery. The concrete is permeable so that water seeps through it instead of running off of it into the storm drains and flowing untreated into the bay. Kudos to the City for spending a little extra money to improve our water quality.

Klipsan Beach

We try to make it to this beach on the Washington coast every summer. Mark, Marja, Devin and Olivia have come with us for the past few years. We always eat well because all of the adults, except me, are professional cooks. We had a great time and have already got a couple of cabins reserved for next year.

4th of July

Our friends, Mark and Marja came over with their twins Devin and Olivia. The kids' enthusiasm and joy made our holiday particularly enjoyable.

I haven't posted to my vlog in a while because I've been traveling. One of the places that I went to was Granada, Nicaragua, a beautiful colonial city on Lake Nicaragua. Click here to see the video.
